Ksoul & Muteoscillator – Soul Hell EP (Dekmantel)

The team behind Dekmantel have just released their second EP of the year, following the success of the hypnotic Marcel Dettmann remixes of Vedomir (aka Vakula) which came out earlier this summer. Appearing on the Dutch imprint this time around is the powerful Italian team-up of Ksoul & Muteoscillator, offering up three tracks which will each take the listener in a different direction. One characteristic each piece of music shares is a clear sign of attention to detail from the makers, perfectly capturing and evoking the right emotions under layers of analog production techniques. Vibes LTD Vol. 3

Copies of the first stylishly-marbled, heavyweight Vibes LTD release hit record store shelves late in 2012 and sold out everywhere soon after. Fans of the first two releases will undoubtedly have picked this up already, as it brings more of the high quality, deep and downtempo, soulful house music that listeners have come to expect from Vibes LTD. A1 is the perfect early evening tune with its sunny chords and bouncy bass hits, while A2 keeps it deep but adds a hint of disco with its drums and that powerful clap. B1 lets the pad chords and...

Various Artists – The Many Shades of Soul Notes, Vol. 2

Months ago, I remember how excited I was at the initial announcement of the ‘Many Shades’ volumes. Label owner Mario Castillo, known well for his productions as Kastil, simply teased these compilations with a photo on the label’s Facebook page. My excitement was not unfounded, as some of my favourite tracks of the last two years had appeared under the Soul Notes banner. The first volume of ‘Many Shades’ has easily racked up the most amount of plays out of all of my purchases so far this year. I can happily say the second volume is catching up on that number of plays, while having come out 3 months after the first. The still-mysterious Crue opens the EP with “VCO Mfkr”, an incredibly raw, acid jam with a kick that hits hard. It has a more classic, techier sound than all of the other Crue...
